Christian Pincock - Trombonist

Christian Pincock is a trombonist and composer with experience in many styles of music. Coming from a foundation in jazz, he has performed in a diverse range of situations including big bands, jazz combos, symphonies, brass quintets, marching bands, dixiland bands, funk bands, variety bands, kirtan, rock, avant-garde jazz, experimental, electro-acoustic, and has collaborated in projects involving actors, dancers, and visual artists.

While living in New York, Boston, and Berlin, Christian has been an active member of the performing arts community, playing with bands such as the Walter Thompson Orchestra, The Joe Battaglia Big Band, Gary Wofsey's Orchestra, and at venues such as Birdland, The Rainbow Room, Jordan Hall, and Lincoln Center.

Christian has experience as a composer, arranger, and copyist. In addition to his own works for big band and jazz quintet, he has written arrangements for the Manhattan School of Music Big Band and Trombone choir, the Joe Battaglia Big Band, and The New England Conservatory Jazz Composers Big Band.

Christian holds a Bachelor of Music degree from New England Conservatory where he studied with Bob Brookmeyer, Scott Hartmann, and John McNeil. He has a Masters of Music degree from Manhattan School of Music where he studied with Steve Turre and David Taylor. He participated in the Banff Center Workshop for Jazz and Creative Music in Alberta, Canada in 2005 where he worked with artists such as Dave Douglass, DJ Olive, Marilyn Crispell, Donny McCaslin, and Clarence Penn, and was a Fellow at the Music Omi International Arts Residency in 2007.

Christian currently lives in Albuquerque, NM where he teaches private trumpet and trombone lessons, leads workshops on improvisation, and plays with the Albuquerque Jazz Orchestra (AJO) a regional professional jazz big band, Mark Weaver's UFO Ensemble, The Route 66 Revelers traditional jazz band, and area musicians such as Bobby Shew, Stu McAskie, Glenn Kostur, and Cesar Bauvallet. He directs the two High School Honors Jazz Ensembles as well as the Community Big Band at the New Mexico Jazz Workshop and in addition to performing on trombone, he creates experimental electro-acoustic music and directs SPOONM, the Soundpainting Orchestra Of New Mexico. Christian also hosts a weekly radio show for contemporary, avant garde, and experimental jazz called "The House That Jazz Built" on KUNM 89.9 FM.
